Narrative Service of Word and Sacrament – A Devotional Reflection on the Lutheran Liturgy ()

David L.W. Pfeiffer, October 4, 2015
Part of the Pentecost Season series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

This worship service was conducted in the form of a narrative service. A narrative service adds commentary throughout the service to help explain the meaning and purpose of the various parts of the liturgy. It is important to understand why we do what we do so that you can get the most out of your worship and so that it doesn’t become a matter of rote ritualization. The Historic Liturgy is packed with meaningful material drawn from the Scriptures and designed to lead us to Christ in repentance and faith. The Lutheran liturgy helps Christians we grow in their understanding of the Scriptures as they learn to confess the one true faith before the world.
