Keep Laying Up Treasures In Heaven (Matthew 6:19-24)

Part of the series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

I once heard of a woman who had died, and according to her instructions, was buried in her
expensive Mercedes Benz automobile. That is at the same time ridiculous, and terribly sad. It
shows what she treasured during her life. Her nice car is rusting in the ground. Her earthly
treasures aren’t going to do her any good at all when she stands before God’s throne on
Judgment Day.

Matthew 6:19-24

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal: 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also. 22The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness! 24No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (ASV)
