“We preach Christ crucified!”
(1 Corinthians 1:23)

Ascension is a family of Christians in Batavia, Illinois who treasure the good news of Christ crucified.  The message of the cross is “power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24) by which souls are saved from eternal death.  Through the sacrifice of His Son on the cross (the crucifixion), God has paid for your sins and the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1).  Come and find rest for your soul (Matthew 11:28).

Our church family gathers around the message of the cross.

We endeavor to:

      • Confess that our sin is the reason for the crucifixion of God’s Son (Romans 3:23,24).
      • Declare that God’s unconditional forgiveness is the result of the crucifixion of God’s Son (Galatians 3:13).
      • Preach God’s Word faithfully, for it contains the treasure of Christ crucified (Jeremiah 23:28).
      • Administer the Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper) according to our Lord’s command (John 14:23).
      • Seek out and serve those who are burdened with sin and guilt (Matthew 11:28).
      • Confess openly what we believe and teach (Romans 15:5,6).

The Church of the Lutheran Confession

Our church is a member of the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC).  All of the CLC member churches confess that the Bible is the Word of God and it contains no errors.  We confess the creeds of the Lutheran Church, as they are found in the Book of Concord of 1580. Scripture itself is the source and foundation of Christian teaching and faith — The Lutheran confessions are a faithful setting forth of what Scripture teaches.

The CLC is:

      • A confessional Lutheran church body.
      • Dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of Christ crucified for sinners.
      • Represented by congregations throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Africa and India.
      • Focused on upholding the truth of our Lord’s Word and the salvation it brings.

“The salvation won for us through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the driving force behind our efforts as a confessional Lutheran church.”  CLC Website
